Roses

And once I knew a meditative rose

That never raised its head from bowing down,

Yet drew its inspiration from the stars.

It bloomed and faded here beside the road,

And, being a poet, wrote on empty air

With fragrance all the beauty of its soul.

Henry Abbey, "A Morning Pastoral"

Roses in all their glory really make my day!

And last but not least, the fragrant Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus Syriacus)!

This made me think of the Bible reference in Song of Solomon 2:1, where it refers most likely to the Shulamite who is being wooed by her beloved. The Christian interpretation of this 'Song' is a picture of Christ and His Bride, the Church.

As Christians, how important it is for us to portray beauty in our character and demeanour!

How do I make others feel in my presence? Does my life reflect the character of Christ?

Searching questions raised by the beauty and fragrance of this special flower.
