1. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1
The Psalmist tells us that those who literally ‘sit’ in the secret place of El Elyon (the supreme God) will ‘lodge’ under the protection of El Shaddai, the omnipotent God. The ‘secret place’ is the Father’s bosom, the place of intimate communion, enjoyed by believers today through Christ.

2. Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. Isaiah 46:4
These comforting words assure us of God's sustaining power through the course of our lives. Promises made to God's people in the Old Testament can also be applied to believers in Jesus today as God never changes, and His word remains forever. The Psalmist also testified that he had never seen the righteous forsaken (Psalm 37:25). God will carry and deliver us!

3. The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation. Psalm 118:14
The Psalms were written to be sung; how often the writers expressed their praise to God for His strength and salvation! Having experienced God's delivering power, we, too, can sing a song of praise from redeemed hearts.

The Bible reassures us that believers have received a spirit of power from God rather than a spirit of fear. With His power, we can accept challenging life situations and emerge victoriously on the other side. The power that raised Christ from the dead is the same in us through the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11), giving life and resurrection power to our bodies.

5. For by You I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall. Psalm 18:29
The Psalmist David rejoiced in God's help to perform His appointed tasks. While we may not be expected to engage in battle or scale a wall, God will give us the strength to do what He has ordained for us.

Dependence on God starts when we acknowledge our weakness and come to Him for salvation through faith in Christ's atoning death. May we look to God for strength each day as we humbly approach His throne for the help available to us.
